Vipiteno Day Trip: Exploring the Alpine Charm of Italy’s Hidden Gem
We spent a week in Seefeld, Austria. Which is only 30 minutes from Innsbruck, and decided to head to Vipiteno, Italy for a day trip.
Vipiteno is a small and colorful town only 1h from Innsbruck by car.
As you arrive you will see the main street, called the Via Citta Nuova, where restaurants and gift shops are located. Famous for the colorful houses and the clock tower looking to the mountains.
Originally built in the 15th century, unfortunately it had to be rebuilt a few times after the war as well as a big fire that damaged part of the city.
If you come in spring or summer you will find all the balconies decorated with beautiful flowers and all the terraces will be open for tourists.
The Palazzo Communale is a palace you can visit while you are here. The courtyard and its galleries that are the main attraction, along with the high-quality Renaissance works of art that it contains.Some families come to Vipiteno for lunch after doing some hiking routes such us the one at the Valley di Racines, with a walk that passes some waterfalls.

By Car: The journey from Milan to Vipiteno takes around 4 to 5 hours depending on traffic. Take the A4 and A22 motorways, driving north towards Bolzano. Exit at Vipiteno and follow the signs to the town center.
By Train: Trains from Milan to Vipiteno are available, with transfers in Bolzano or Fortezza. The train journey takes approximately 4 to 5 hours, offering scenic views of the Italian Alps along the way.
